History
Ask Why KY began in 2005 when Boone County Public Library (BCPL) decided to offer 24/7 reference service to their patrons. BCPL realized that other libraries around the state might be interested in providing the service to their patrons, and that the cost of such a service is less expensive when shared by many libraries. BCPL contacted the directors of libraries throughout the Commonwealth asking for others to join together to offer the service.
The Kentucky group then contracted with the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) in Dublin, Ohio to join the QuestionPoint system. Numerous other library groups around the world participate in QuestionPoint reference services. Service is provided by experienced reference librarians from both the Ask Why KY group and from the other library groups around the world. This is what allows us to guarantee you will be able to connect with a live librarian at any hour of the day or night.
